movements are normal. Lack of sleep is also
present.
Introduction :
Ayurveda, the ancient system of Indian medicine,
provides a holistic approach to health that
encompasses the body, mind and spirit. In recent
decades, mental health diseases has emerged as a
major global health concern, affecting individuals
across all age groups and societies. Among them
one is Generalized Anxiety Disorder.[1] GAD
Diagnosis :
Based on the signs & symptoms and examination,
he was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety
Disorder. As per DSM-5 criteria[3] and intervention
was given. Assessment of the patient before and
after the intervention was done using Hamilton’s
Anxiety Rating scale.

Conventional medical approaches are effective in
acute symptom management, which often fall short
in treating the root cause and long-term prevention
of psychological distress.
The major symptoms of Generalized Anxiety
Disorder, includes excessive thinking, irritability,
palpitations, anxiety, loss of sleep etc. which are
occurs due to Vata Prakop whereas symptoms like
altered habits, fear, anger, etc. are results of Pitta
Prakop. These vitiated Vatadi Doshas impairs Agni
which in turn vitiates Rasadi Dhatus.
Case Report :
A Hindu, 17 years old male patient visited the OPD
of Pandit Khushilal Sharma Ayurvedic College and
Hospital on date 13/02/25 with complaints of
persistent worry, lack of sleep, decreased appetite,
occasional involuntary muscle twitches since, 2
months.
According to classical texts, the mind resides in
Hridaya (heart)[4]. Acharya Charak also stated that
the Twak (skin) and mind are inseparably
connected through Samvayi Sambandh. Therefore,
wherever skin exists, mind is also present. The Vata
Prakop caused by Rasa Kshaya along with
aggravated Pitta affects the Shiras and Hridaya,
Clinical Findings :
Patient complained of continuous overthinking,
restlessness and sudden outburst of anger due to
sociorelational factors particularly associated with
female friends. When overthinking sometimes he
feels palpitations and muscle twitching. He
exhibited significantly impaired sleep quality,
including persistent insomnia, and suffers from
nightmares when manages to sleep. He also gets
irritated easily and goes through sudden changes in
mood.

Khavaigunya arises from prolonged overthinking
and worry ultimately leading to the condition called
Chittodvega.
He has no history of any alcohol or drug abuse and
there is no family history of depression or anxiety
disorder. Also, he has not shown any suicidal
thoughts or tendencies.
